"Ex" means that two people are no longer going together. While a small percentage can become friends most can't and move on. In his own way he feels bad he doesn't have the same feelings he once had for you (happens to a lot of us) and hates to see the hurt he has caused you and feels so guilty he probably wants to remain friends. He loves you as a person, but not as a lover. He does care what happens to you and hopes you move on with your life. I hope you do too. The hurt will eventually go away and you're heart will open up again and you'll find the right guy for you. Start going out with girlfriends and having a little fun and when you are ready start getting back into the dating circuit. Good luck
