It doesn't make any difference what it sounds like - you'll know immediately if it does, as your engine will immediately stop. It might give a few death throes on the way out, but it will stop.
It will make no sound, it will just break. When it breaks your engine will stop running. If the engine is an interference engine you will have serious engine damage.
There will be a rasping sound like a rope being pulled through a barrel. The vehicle will immediately shut down and not start again.
When a timing belt is going bad it can make a high-pitched screeching sound. It can sound like a high-pitch whirring noise. Not all timing belts make a noise when they are worn or going bad.
like it says > it is the timing of the engine that will keep everything synchronized. IF it breaks you are in really big trouble.
check timing. timing advance. or slack in timing chain/belt
It has a chain. Replace when it breaks, no maintenance interval like a belt.
It is not like a belt and pulley. A timing belt is a belt and it fits on a pulley.
First off, its a chain, NOT a belt, and you DONT change it unless it breaks. You can SET the timing, but you dont have to change the chain. You need a timing light to re-set it if its off. Its like a strobe light.
The timing belt should be changed every 60,000 miles. Most belts will still look like new at 60,000 miles. They seem to want to break at 100,000 miles. Nothing bad will happen if it breaks other than a tow to a mechanic. This is true if you have a non-interference engine BUT if you have an interference engine and the timing belt breaks the engine can destroy itself in a moment.
you will know because its not really really tight to the point you can barley wiggle it
that's sounds more like the serpentine or power steering belt. Your timing belt is internal and you wont hear it but you will know when its broken... your car wont run.
Parts like, valves/pistons/etc are no longer synchronized when a timing belt breaks. Often belts will stretch to merely "jump time" so parts no longer have the clearance necessary for safe movement.
