Mars is a very very bad 'back up' place to try to exist, No atmosphere to breathe. No magnetic field to deflect DNA damaging UV rays and solar flares. No surface water.
Look after this planet with all of your might, there is no plan B.
Mars has many good advantages about it that makes itself be one of the most sustainable places in the solar system that humans can survive. Because of its thin atmosphere, that suspends 95.3% carbon dioxide in its air, plants and crops can grow by breathing in carbon dioxide and thus, exhaling oxygen. When they let out oxygen, we would also be able to survive on mars, and feed on its plants. Also, Mars's soil has been fully examined and scrutinized over NASA's Phoenix Mars Lander. The Lander has found that the soil within Mars has various minerals containing it such as potassium; magnesium and chloride which can grow and feed many plants. The Phoenix lab leader has stated that: "We basically have found what appears to be the requirements for nutrients to support life," he also said, "This is the type of soil you'd probably have in your backyard." Mars's soil is similar to Earth's; this means that if we plant any crops in the soil, it would survive in mars and provide us with oxygen and food.
Another reason why this planet was chosen to sustain life is because of its two large ice caps located at the pole regions in Mars. Those ice blocks are not in liquid form, but solid, this is still good because beneath the ice might exist water, or we can wait for the ice to melt. Also, the temperature of Mars is an average of: -63celcius which might be very cold in the winter, but it's the best planet we got so far that has a temperature that is not too hot, or not too cold. All the other planets are either very close or very far away from the sun, since Mars is very close to Earth, then it will probably have the accurate temperature as Earth.
Mars would be an unlikely candidate for the term "livable", because of the very thin, not-breathable atmosphere and practically-nonexistent water supply. The Moon would be as "livable".
But all the other planets would be far worse. Venus is an 800-degree hellhole with an "atmosphere" of sulfuric acid soup, Mercury as hot with no atmosphere at all. The gas giant outer planets have no detectable surface, and are covered with poisonous gas atmospheres.
So Mars, the Moon, and possibly Jupiter's moon Ganymede are perhaps the least-unlikely candidates for colonization. Because with enough electrical power, we can build our own livable habitats anywhere.
Including in space; the human race was born on an planet, but our future is very probably between the stars.
because there is frozen water and nitrogen and the north and south.
Because some scientists say that there is some oxygen and there are traces of water bodies....
trees and plants which would give oxygen, water, but they have already found some there, oil, ect.
it might because it is starting to build up its own atmosphere
It might be the next livable planet
10'000 -100'000 years
Um .. well there are so guesses that there were life on the planet long ago, but i don't think that mars is livable anymore.
inner planet
Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars.
Mars is not "livable". There are no planets in the solar system that are livable without artificial environments.
when i say so
It might be the next livable planet
10'000 -100'000 years
Aside from Earth, no. And at this point mars is not a viable option in the foreseeable future either.
Mars is livable if we teraformed it which would take hundreds of years. some of the other problems are the atmosphereic pressure is to low and all the water is frozen. so we would have to warm up the planet then get more oxtgen in the atmosphere.
Um .. well there are so guesses that there were life on the planet long ago, but i don't think that mars is livable anymore.
The red planet is Mars, 4th planet from the sun and 7th largest. The name of the month of March derives from the name Mars
We are adapted to breathing and living in Earth's atmosphere. A planet would need to have an atmosphere similar to that of Earth for people to find it livable.
no you cant because it is physically impossible to live on mars the red planet
Mars is an inner planet.
