Yes, the red wire is a positive wire (+) and the black wire is a negative wire (-) :D
If this is a home wiring question and the wires are black and white then black is Hot and white is Neutral. If you also have a red wire, it is the other hot wire, and either the black or the red wire to the white one would be 120 volts, and red to black would be 240 volts.
Depending on the configuration of the cord cap, the green wire is ground, the white wire is the neutral and red and black wires are the 220 volt source.
Red to positive, black to negative
There is no code rule designation which side that the wire colours are terminated on. I always use red on the left and black on the right when connecting to a distribution panel.
yes
Red wire=positive Black wire=negative

There are twelve different wires for the stereo system in a 1995 BMW 318i. The car radio constant 12V+ wire is red/white, the radio switched 12v+ wire is purple/white, the radio ground wire is brown, and the radio antenna trigger is white. For the front speakers, the left front speaker wire (+) is yellow/red, the left front speaker wire (-) is brown/orange, the right front speaker wire (+) is black/red, and the right front speaker wire (-) is brown/orange. For the rear speakers, the left rear speaker wire (+) is yellow/black, the left rear speaker wire (-) is black/orange, the right rear speaker wire (+) is blue/black, and the right rear speaker wire (-) is brown/orange.
Connect the black wire to the incoming hot wire and the red wire to the out going load.

Black in a black/red/green set, or blue in a blue/brown/green set. The hot is red or brown and the earth is green (note: I'm in New Zealand and assuming that the colors are the same).
