'Groom' is the term used for pedophiles who make contact with young people on the internet, through IMs, chat rooms and message boards, usually. They pose as people the same age, or with similar interests, and try to make friends with the young person. As the conversation develops, over days and often weeks, they try to become closer, gradually introducing sexual language so that the young person is not uncomfortable talking about sex. They encourage the young person to keep everything secret from their parents. They gradually start asking intrusive questions about sex. They might ask for photos, innocent ones at first, but later more sexual.

What they want to do, and sometimes manage, is to finally arrange a meeting somewhere that they hope will lead to sex.

So remember in the chat rooms and IMs and message boards, that the person at the other end is not always the friendly person they say they are!
