Established in 2006 and based out of the Naval Amphibious Base in Little Creek, Virginia (where mosquitoes are many), Rivron's have been deployed to Iraq in support of the war there, having a major impact on arms trafficking on the rivers. The first deployment of such brown water vessels for the Navy in 35 years, they are the descendants of the Navy's river patrol boat squadrons from the Vietnam era (seen in the movie "Apocalypse Now"). Though the sailors of the Rivron's come from all rates, the one common element is that they must undergo Marine Corps Infantry training. As a former Navy Small Arms Instructor, I can attest to the fact the few sailors have the knowledge or training for small arms use on a regular basis, let alone combat situations. Special Warfare Combatant-craft Crewmen (SWCC's), are a lot more highly trained in many areas.
