Then he obviously likes you. He wants to be your trusted sidekick. Just let him/her do what they want to help with. Just go with the flow. Be careful only let them help as much as you are willing to let them. It is not obvious that he likes you although it seems most likely. A very easy way to answer this would be to ask if you have expressed your feelings towards him, in a verbal or non verbal way in the past? If you have, then he likes you. If not, then you need to ask; Is he the kind of guy that would just help someone that he didn't have feelings for with the trouble that you were in?
