There can be no specific reference to Freemasonry in The Bible because although we cannot be sure when it arose, it was after all of the parts of the Bible were written. Freemasonry makes frequent references to the Bible in its rituals.

Catholics are forbidden, under pain of excommunication, from becoming a Mason.

Answer

One way the Catholic Church speaks to us is through Canon Law. The 1917 Code of Canon Law applied the censure of excommunication on anyone who joined a Masonic lodge. Like all laws, the wording of Canon Law is open to interpretation by experts, and in this case the actions of senior clergy are surely part of what the Church is saying.

Another way the Church speaks to us is through the actions of senior clergy. Numerous Catholic clergy, including bishops and cardinals, have secretly joined Masonic lodges, particularly some with Mafia links. Some of the names became public knowledge in 1976 after the Italian government ruled that the names of individuals who joined secret societies such as Masonic lodges be made public. The Masonic movement itself was innocent of direct involvement in what occurred, but its secrecy provided an ideal cover for the Mafia to infiltrate the Vatican and engage in symbiotic criminal activity. The Catholic Church has one thing to say in Canon Law about Freemasons, and a quite different thing to say through the actions of its clergy.

Here is what Jesus did say:

  • "In the mouth of two or three witnesses, every word is established." (Matthew 18:16)
  • "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man comes unto the Father, but by me." (John 14:6)
  • "I have spoken openly to the world. I have always taught in synagogues and in the temple, where all Jews come together. I have said nothing in secret." (John 18:20)
  • "Beware of practicing your righteousness before other people in order to be seen by them, for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven. “Thus, when you give to the needy, sound no Trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be praised by others." (Matthew 6:1-34)
  • "But whoever denies me before men, I also will deny before my Father who is in heaven." (Matt 10:33)
If you do your research, you'll see that these are contradictory to the Freemasons.

As Catholics we are privileged to know exactly what Our Blessed Lord would say about a bunch of things, because He has appointed His Vicar on earth to deal with these kinds of questions: His Popes. The Popes have been very vocal about Freemasonry for hundreds of years, outright condemning it, declaring it incompatible with the Christian faith, and forbidding the Faithful from getting involved with it. Both John Salza and Michael Voris quote the Popes and the various documents they have issued in regard to Freemasonry. I would read John Salza's books first to get a good grasp on the subject, John Salza was a Freemason, Shriner, and Lodge Officer and deeply involved in the Masons for many years, teaching the rituals, etc.

It is not addressed in the Bible. Masons became popular at the close of the 14th Century AD.

Nothing.

Freemasonry is an old institution, many centuries old, but the Bible is much older. Freemasonry did not exist when the Bible was written, so the Bible says nothing about it.

Is the US government supporting masons?

First, let me tell you my opinion about the Masons. Masons are a bunch of smart people who like to talk with the members of their club about things that are important to them. Everything else you hear, is most likely a conspiracy. I am NOT saying that it is impossible for the Masons to have bad things going on in their club, but I find that idea highly unlikely. Now, back to your question, I think that the Masons have some sort of support from the government in some way. There are MANY people in the government who are Masons. 15 of our presidents were Masons.
