"talk story" gab, chat, exchange ideas. I don't know the real Hawaiian terms, but I live in Hawaii and hear it used often. For ex: I was in a restaraunt with my girl friends, we were chatting before we looked at the menu. He came back, and was going to ask if we were ready to order, but said "go ahead, Vala'au, I will come back and check again"

The Hawaiian phrase "aua le vala'au" does not have a direct translation in Hawaiian. It appears to be a mix of Hawaiian and another language, possibly Samoan. In Samoan, "aua le va" means "do not go" or "do not enter."
