The United Nations' Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)'s scientific consensus is that global warming is being caused by anthropogenic means, that it, it is caused by man's actions, especially those that add to the greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. Man does this by the burning of fossil fuels (coal, oil and natural gas) and by deforestation.Combustion of fossil fuels releases long-stored carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, and deforestation has removed the carbon sinks of the great forests that used to absorb and store carbon.

What is the relationship between halocarbons and climate change?

Halocarbons, compounds of carbon and halogen, make the world's climate become hotter. In 2007 the IPCC declared that halocarbons were a direct cause of global warming.

What was alarming about the 1990s in regards to global warming?

The first two reports (1990 and 1995) of the International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) confirmed that the world is definitely warming and this warming is being caused by human activity.

What are the world leaders doing about global warming?

The UN has established the InterGovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) to gather and share information about global warming. The Kyoto Protocol is an agreement that all countries signed to limit their emissions of greenhouse gases.

Do all scientists believe there is a link between human activity and global warming?

As with all issues, not ALL scientists believe in the link between human activity and global warming. However, the majority of scientists feel that the evidence for global warming is adequate to prove its existence. The majority of scientists who reaffirm the theory of global warming believe there is a link between climate and human activity. According to the Union of Concerned Scientists, "The Fourth Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) states: it is a greater than a 90 percent certainty that emissions of heat-trapping gases from human activities have caused "most of the observed increase in globally averaged temperatures since the mid-20th century." "

What effect might global warming have in 30 years time?

In 30 years time, global warming may lead to more frequent and severe extreme weather events, such as hurricanes and heatwaves. There could be an increase in sea levels, resulting in coastal flooding and erosion. Additionally, ecosystems worldwide may face disruption, including loss of biodiversity and shifts in species distributions.

What has the IPCC got to say about global warming?

The InterGovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) states that global warming is happening, and that it is being caused by the human activities of deforestation and the burning of fossil fuels. Deforestation means that removed trees can no longer remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. Burning of fossil fuels releases carbon dioxide into the atmosphere that has been long hidden underground.

What do you understand by global warming?

Global warming is the way the Earth is getting warmer. The word 'global' means 'worldwide' and the warming is of the atmosphere, the oceans and the surface of the earth. According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), temperatures, averaged over all land and ocean surfaces, have warmed roughly 1.33°F (0.74ºC) over the last century, (see page 2 of the IPCC's Climate Change 2007: Synthesis Report Summary for Policymakers Link below.). More than half of this warming, about 0.72°F (0.4°C), has occurred since 1979.

What pressure groups are stating the dangers of global warming?

Lots of groups are starting to speak out about the dangers of global warming, including the government, the NRDC (Natural Resource Defense Council), IPCC (Intergoverment Panel on Climate Change), and the WWF (World Wildlife Fund).

Where can you find a record of the changes from global warming?

There is a basic quiz on global warming at the link below.

What is global warming and how does styrofoam contribute to global warming?

Global warming, according to the United Nations through the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) means that the earth is gradually warming because of actions of the human race. Specifically by adding to the greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, and cutting down the world's forests. When we burn coal and oil, which we do to produce electricity and drive our transport, we release carbon dioxide that has been hidden away for millions of years. This is warming the planet. The second part of the question is related to this. Styrofoam (polystyrene) is a plastic. Plastics are made from oil, mostly fossil fuel oil. Styrofoam is usually made with hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFC) as blowing agents. These affect ozone depletion and global warming. They are not as harmful to the ozone layer as chlorofluorocarbons (CFC) which were formerly used, but as a greenhouse gas HCFCs are about 1000 times more powerful than carbon dioxide.

How does the climate change in Europe?

Climate change is one of our greatest environmental, social and economic threats. The warming of the climate system is unequivocal, says the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). Observations show increases in global average air and ocean temperatures, widespread melting of snow and ice, and rising global mean sea level. It is very likely that most of the warming can be attributed to the emissions of greenhouse gases by human activities.

People that believe in global warming?

No i do not believe in global warming. for instance the polar ice caps are melting. wrong. the polar ice caps are expanding. and I'll tell you why. the ice caps have a core like the earth does. as of this moment in time the core is expanding causing the outer layers of the ice caps to break apart, not melt. that is also causing the polar bears to die or either move farther south into Canada and bordering countries. that is why you see grass in all of the news media pictures. it is not in the arctic. the only reason why you only hear one side of the case is because of the big media goers. you don't listen to a nobady you listen to a somebody, like al gore. this case of global warming is false.A:Yes, I believe in Global Warming. I believe that the InterGovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) is examining studies and data from all over the world, and I believe them when they say that global warming is happening. I believe them when they say it is extremely likely that global warming is being caused by man's burning of fossil fuels and cutting down the forests of the world. I believe the National Science Academies of so many countries who have spoken up and supported the work of the IPCC. I have studied the earth's natural carbon cycle and the natural greenhouse effect, which has kept the earth warm for millions of years. I understand that by burning fossil fuels we are releasing carbon dioxide (CO2), a greenhouse gas, that has been hidden away underground for millions of years. I believe the studies that show that CO2 has recently increased in the atmosphere from 270 ppm (parts per million) to the present 394 ppm, and that this is too much for the carbon cycle to cope with. I understand that this is what is causing the accelerated greenhouse effect that is causing global warming.

What is global warming-?

Global Warming is the recent sudden (over 200 years) way the Earth is getting warmer. The word 'global' means 'worldwide' and the warming is of the atmosphere, the oceans and the surface of the earth. The earth has always warmed and cooled in the past, but this has always taken thousands of years to occur. When we talk about Global Warming now, we are referring to the unprecedented changes in temperature since the Industrial Revolution.According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), temperatures, averaged over all land and ocean surfaces, have warmed roughly 1.33 degrees F (0.74C) over the last century, (see page 2 of the IPCC's Climate Change 2007: Synthesis Report Summary for Policymakers Link below.). More than half of this warming, about 0.72F (0.4C), has occurred since 1979.Answer:Global Warming, Global Climate Change and other terms are used to describe the observed and scientifically verified changes in the Earth's temperature, climate and weather patterns over the past several decades. The cause of this change is attributed to the manmade increases in several heat retaining gases collectively referred to as Greenhouse gases which include carbon dioxide and methane which result from human activities and emissions which include the use of fossil fuels, agricultural practices and deforestation.Answer:Global warming: Global means all over the world. Warming means getting hotter. It is the way the earth is getting warmer, because of extra greenhouse gases that man is adding to the atmosphere. These extra gases (carbon dioxide and methane, mostly) are making the earth warmer. This warming is causing the climate to change. The early signs of climate change are showing up across vastly differing landscapes: from melting outposts near the Arctic Circle to disappearing glaciers high in the Andes; from the rising water in the deltas of Bangladesh to the "sinking" atolls of the Pacific. Reports from a Warming Planet takes you to parts of the planet where global warming is already making changes to life and landscape, and demonstrates how climate change is no longer restricted to scientific modeling about the future. It's happening now.
