on starters that have the solenoid mounted on them, the link is a fork like piece between the solonoid and the starter clutch, which is on the motor shaft. on starters that dont have the solenoid on the starter, it just has a overrunning clutch on the motor shaft
The starter solenoid is inside the starter
no it is not inside its on it
Starter solenoid is on the starter. Transmission solenoids are inside the transmission.
There are four. Starter solenoid, is built on the starter. Governor pressure solenoid, overdrive solenoid, and torque converter solenoid are on the valve body inside the transmission. There are four. starter solenoid is on the inside of the fender twards the cab from the battery follow the positive battery cable at the end will be the solenoid
The starter solenoid to my knowledge is part of the starter. Follow the (+) battery cable to the starter. Adjacent you will find a smaller aprox 16 gauge wire with a connector. That's the solenoid. Likely starter problems on the pre-05 Subies are the "Contactor set" located inside the top cap of the solenoid. Cost about $3.00
It is the copper plate inside the starter solenoid that when energized connects 12 volts to the starter motor. On older cars ( 60's and 70's ) it will be on the firewall, on newer cars it is attached to the starter.
After thinking about this a bit it has to be on the starter, which is on the lower left side of the engine. I was trying to confuse this with the starter relay which Ford has long mounted up on the fender and makes things easy to locate starting problems. The solenoid is located inside the starter.
