In "The Lone Star Flag of Texas", an article which appeared in the September 1948 issue of Frontier Times, author Adina de Zavala suggests a meaning for each point of the star. According to the article, the five points of the star represent the characteristics of a good citizen, which are fortitude, loyalty, righteousness, prudence, and broadmindedness. The star that represents Texas is located in the far right vertical column. It is the star that is 2nd from the top. If you draw a rectangle shape with that particular star being on the left side of the rectangle, you will find that the Texas flag will appear within that rectangle. The Texas flag is always flying when a U.S. flag is flying. The Texas flag just happens to blend in to the U.S. flag until you place a rectangle around it. The Texas flag is the only state flag that is allowed to fly within the U.S. Flag.
