The story of Adam and Eve explains the existence of evil in the world. God wanted the couple to know only the good, because the knowledge of evil would be fatal to Adam and Eve. The reason was that human beings were created in the image of God, but weren't divine.

It also explains the loving forgiveness of God. Creation disrespected and disobeyed their creator. The loss of eternal life in this world was the cost of gaining knowledge of evil through eating of the forbidden fruit. But God wasn't vindictive, because immortality was offered with the end of the earthly existence through death.

No, the Adam and Eve story does not tell us to avoid knowledge. The 'knowledge' of their tree of life was the very specific knowledge of sin (doing wrong). For finding out about sin, they had to leave the Garden of Eden (Paradise).

What does the story of Adam and Eve say about creation?

A:The story of Adam and Eve is undoubtedly a creation myth, not a true, historical account of creation. Even the differences between this, the second creation story in Genesis, and the first account (Genesis 1:1-2:4a) tell us that the two stories were developed by different people at different times and in different cultures. This account tells us, improbably, that God created Adam then created the animals one by one, trying to find a helpmeet for Adam. It was only when Adam had rejected every other creature as unsuitable for a close companion that God created a female of the species, Eve. This was a story with a hidden moral purpose, not a story of creation.

What does Adam and Eve teach us?

I remember hearing that some scientists have reason to believe that all humans originated from 2 original people whether they think they were like us or not. They were dubbed Adam and Eve is this true?

The Bible story has us all descended from Adam and Eve, and many other cultures have similar myths to explain the origin of mankind and the world in general. People evolved from earlier beings, probably monkeys, and I doubt it is possible to say that just two people were the 'origin' of humans as we now know the race.
