In some parts of the world there are people who believe that only members of a specific ethnic group should be allowed to live in that location. The term "ethnic cleansing" arose during the wars in the late 20th century following the breakup of the nation of Yugoslavia. Croatians wanted certain areas to be reserved for Croatians only, Serbs wanted certain areas reserved for Serbs only, and so forth. If an unwanted ethnic group were to be (very insultingly) regarded as some kind of dirt, then the removal of those people (either by killing them or just by driving them away) would be metaphorically considered to be a kind of cleansing.

being massacred by the Nazis during WWII. Or, the KKK against the negro race
in the south up till the 60's. and don't forget the most recent (and arguably the worst) one that's going on against Islam and Muslims (not only in the Middle East but in North America itself). Ethnic cleansing in many instances is just another way to say Genocide...........its a sad sad world we live in.
