Many people had high hopes for WAP a few years back, as the future for mobile internet. It never really took off, it was too complicated to configure the phones and too few web sites with the special coding needed to work on WAP phones.
These days, with the iPhone as the leading example, it looks like the future for mobile internet is rather cell phones with a full-fledged browser, which can access almost all of the millions of web pages that are already out there without requiring any special coding from the web site.
