The sensor mounted on the intake manifold indicates the temperature of the intake and helps working in conjunction with the emissions equipment and carburetor to adjust with the temperature to help it work properly at any temperature. This can greatly affect the carburetor mpg and the truck running too rich or too lean (burning to much fuel or not enough). In short if it is not working correctly it will make the truck run poorly, and or poor fuel economy and various other factors.Hope this helps and yes this sensor does have coolant that is in touch with it being coolant does run thru the intake in the passages.
