It means that person is trustworthy as a friend and true to you. They have gone through something with you and remained faithful to you instead of running away. (They have been "tried" by the difficulties of a situation and found to be "true" to you.) For instance, when I had to let my wife go when she was dying, only a few people were able to help me. They were tried and true to me. So the next time I have to go through something major like that, I can count on them to be there. In a Biblical sense, it is called bearing each other's burdens. When we do this, it makes the load that much lighter to bear because we care about what that person is going through and we show our love for thiem in this way. Galatians 6:2 says, "Bear each other's burdens and so fulfill the law of Christ." God does the same for us. In I Peter 5:7 The Bible says: "Cast all your cares upon me because I care about you." So God is our example as to how we should treat others.
