A simplistic answer: During WW2- The government gained more control over the economy than at any other time. Women went to work- often to munitions factories to support the war effort Food and clothing was rationed People were encouraged to grow their own food and 'make do and mend' clothes/household items Bombing (the blitz) reduced entire streets to rubble and killed thousands of civillians After WW2 Economically weak as it had to borrow so much from America The Blitz meant that many people were homeless and there weren't enough raw materials to rebuild as quickly as was needed. The British people were (mostly) put off war, thus voted for Labour. There were shortages of clothes, food and fuel. Soldiers could not go back into their original jobs because some women wanted to keep them. Like most wars, when soldiers returned there was a boom of marriages and babies
World War 1 led to the loss of a lot of lives in the British Empire because a lot of people were involved in the War. It also led to the beginning of nationalism in the colonies and the colonized people resented having had to fight for Britain.
Many millions of lives had been lost as a result of the war, and there were refugees everywhere as there homes were lost during the blitz, and the west minster abbey was a little damaged but not that much in fact, "i don't know why it took so little damage unlike the whole city got trashed but i suppose it got lucky.

It entirely depends on the war. In the Crimean War, the Ottoman Empire was an ally of the British and French. In World War I, the Russian Empire and, later, the United States were allies of the British and the French. In World War II, the British and French had no strong allies until 1941 when the United States and Soviet Union allied with them.

No, all of the countries that were once in the British Empire were all freed at the end of World War 2 as Britain was nearly bankrupt! Also, I don't think France was ever in the British Empire.
