It will greatly effect your social and home life. And it should. Being a Law Enforcement Officer you will learn that not everyone will like you. Therefor people could harass you when you are out to dinner with your family, going to a ball game or church. They could be people you arrested or just who have seen you in uniform. You should always be on the look out for suspicious activity at all times. To not be alert all the time would be foolish. At the same time you should not neglect the fun things in life or the wife/husband and kids. You should be armed all the time not just at work, That takes some getting used too. You need to conduct yourself in a professional manner ALL THE TIME.
When a Law Enforcement Official does something ignorant on or off duty believe me when I say The Newspaper WILL read " Joe Schmoe, A Police Officer from..........City, County, state, was arrested for DUI last night. The paper never reads the name of the person and leaves it at that. Not when it comes to LE, it's good press. Your personality will change. The way you identify people while out and about will change. I have changed a lot. Not necessarily for the good either. But I do my job well and care a lot about the little things in life.
