Initially, McKinley was favored because he cared about the people and was very professional. In contrast, Roosevelt seemed inexperience, but when he took over after McKinley's death, people accepted him and it helped him win the next four years in office.

McKinley was President of the United States. He was elected to two terms but was assassinated early in his second term. He was President during the short war with Spain. He did not provoke the war, but eventually decided it was necessary.
