Jupiter is a gas planet and does not have a surface (at least scientists don't think so. It's atmosphere is so thick there could be plenty going on down there that we can't see).

Because it does not have a surface, it does not have soil.

A list of the elements that make up Jupiter, however, is as follows:

  • hydrogen
  • helium
  • methane
  • ammonia
  • hydrogen deuteride
  • ethane
  • water
  • ammonium hydrosulfide

The upper atomospher of Jupiter contains about 90% Hydrogen (H) and 10% Helium (He). When you move down to the main atmosphere, this figure changes to 75% Hydrogen (H) and 24% Helium (He) and 1% Trace. When you get to the interior, it is composed of 71% Hydrogen (H) and 24% Helium (He), and now 5% denser elements.

What does composition mean in science?

Composition: the act of combining parts or elements to form a whole. Example: Water is made up of two Hydrogen atoms and one Oxygen atom, so water is composed of Hydrogen and Oxygen. Example: The composition of the atmosphere is Nitrogen, Oxygen, and Argon (and other elements), because the atoms Nitrogen, Oxygen, and Argon are what make up the atmosphere.

What do compounds make up?

A compound is a substance formed from two or more elements chemically united in a fixed proportion; a mixture Example: a compound of hydrogen and oxygen resources: a oxford dicitonary
