If you are unfortunate enough to get bedbugs in your bed, the emotional effects on you are likely to be annoyance, irritation and possibly anger as well as serious negative stress. They also often cause insomnia. Somebody may not get any sleep because they are worried or frightened about one having a meal off them if they fall asleep and may be constantly switching on the light to see if any are there. If this happens over time this can make you seriously fatigued and adversely affect your performance, such as at work and perhaps result in you falling asleep in the day and encountering danger, such as falling asleep while driving. It may also make you very bad tempered from tiredness and upset other people. Also negative stress can affect you as a result of them leaving itchy red marks on you perhaps making you scratch frantically to try to get relief. While having a meal off your blood because each bedbug injects a kind of anaesthetic into you before it starts to pump blood out of you so you will not usually feel anything while it is actually on you feeding because you go numb around where it biters you. So you are unlikely to wake up. But after it has completed its meal and left you to sleep off its meal in a hiding place somewhere unknown near where you sleep will the anaesthetic effect start to wear off. The itching can then become maddening and very stressful to some people particularly if they are allergic to the coagulant bedbugs injects into them to stop blood coming out too fast. But overall the effect does vary quite a lot from person to person. However the more bedbugs you have in your bed, the greater will be the emotional effect be on you, and probably the greater your determination to exterminate them once you discover the infestation. Another emotional concern after you have tried to exterminate them, you are never certain you have been totally successful in getting rid of them all or whether they might come back again, such as from new eggs laid near your bed hatching.
