The Torrens River flows through the city of Adelaide. The city of Adelaide was founded in 1836. The city (not the river) was planned by Colonel Light after Captain Collet Barker recommended the site, and after Light's second-in-command, George Kingston, identified the Torrens River flowing down from the Mt Lofty Ranges.
The mouth of the Torrens River (which is where it ends) is at Gulf St Vincent, due west of the Adelaide CBD. The river empties into the gulf south of Henley Beach South and north of West Beach.
