The Slavery. The united states were separated into the bottom half and top half. The bottom half loved making black people work and they were making tons of money from it. The top half knew that that was wrong and disapprove it. They soon declared a battle for the black peoples rights and soon after the top half won. THANK HEAVENS!

During the American Civil War, the 1863 Battle of Gettysburg had a large-scale and a small-scale cause. The former was the decision by the South (General Robert E. Lee, in particular) to invade northern territory. The latter was the movement of Confederate units (from that invasion-force) into the town of Gettysburg on the morning of July 1, 1863.
The Battle of Gettysburg (July 1-3, 1863) was a major battle of the US Civil War. It took place in and south of Gettysburg, PA, only about 10 miles north of the Maryland border in south central Pennsylvania. The battle is considered a turning point in the war because it marked the end of large-scale Confederate movements into the North. This meant that the conflicts that followed took place almost exclusively in the embattled South.
After three days of fighting, the South could not overcome the Union armies, and was forced to retreat back to Virginia. Both sides suffered large numbers of casualties, and four months later President Abraham Lincoln read the Gettysburg Address at the dedication of a battlefield monument there.
Short History of the Battle
In June, 1863, Robert E. Lee led a large force of the Confederate army northward through western Maryland into Pennsylvania. He hoped to provision his troops from Northern farms and attack cities such as Harrisburg or even Philadelphia. This would have the effect of distracting Union armies from invading Virginia, and possibly turn Union sentiment against continuing the war.
The reports of this armed invasion alarmed Lincoln and the Congress in Washington, which dispatched a reinforced Army of the Potomac to intercept the Southern army. General George Meade replaced General Joseph Hooker in command of the forces, which crossed the Potomac to the west, then turned north through central Maryland.
The battle took place after Union cavalry engaged the Confederate infantry moving east from Cashtown, PA. The Southern army routed the Northern forces and pursued them through Gettysburg (which was mostly undamaged). The following day, Lee's main army arrived south of Gettysburg to encounter the entrenched Army of the Potomac. After two days of bloody attacks and counterattacks, the Union position held. Lee, unable to dislodge the Union army, or to draw it out into further battle, took his surviving forces to the west, and then south back to Virginia.
For the next two years (July 1863 to May, 1865), the North would be on the offensive and would deplete the dwindling manpower and resources of the South.
It was a battle in the American civil war. It consisted of three days, and was the turning point in the war. It impacted the war greatly, because it destroyed the remaining hope confederates had for European recognition. British interest faded away seeing as the confederacy had been severely weakened. Abraham Lincoln's "Gettysburg Address" goes into more detail of the impact of the battle.
A somewhat desperate effort by the Confederates to invade the North in June 1863.
It would be a second try at their failed campaign of September 1862, which was aimed at convincing the British that the Confederacy was likely to win, and therefore worth backing with official recognition and military aid.
But as Lincoln had promptly issued his Emancipation Proclamation, making it impossible for free nations abroad to aid the South without looking pro-slavery themselves, there wasn't much likelihood of any help from overseas.
The immediate aims were rather more basic - food and other war supplies from the prosperous state of Pennsylvania, especially a lot of badly-needed boots and shoes from a big factory near the town of Gettysburg. (Many Confederates had gone barefoot by this time.)
Lee's colleagues - especially James Longstreet - were not convinced of the wisdom of this campaign, and felt that they ought to be sending troops West to help Joe Johnston defeat Grant at Vicksburg.
As it turned out, Vicksburg and Gettysburg were both Union victories, announced on the same day, a jubilant Fourth of July - truly the turning-point of the war.
In a way, it was about shoes. The Rebels heard that there was a warehouse full of shoes in the town, which they needed since many of their men were marching barefoot.
