Solid rocket booster followed by external fuel tank
I believe it called a V.A.B. and there are two of them.
The first Space Shuttle, named Columbia, took off into space on April 12, 1981.
first the rocket boosters carry it into space then the external tank pushes the shuttle above earth then when the shuttle is ready the external tank falls off and the shuttle is ready for its mission then after its mission the shuttle lands and blows out a parachute come out from the back to help the shuttle slow down.any parts from the rocket or shuttle can be reused except the external tank.

a space shuttle blasts off to space containing people and other organisms or devices. we discovered space through a telescope, and explored it with a space shuttle.
When a space shuttle takes off, it gathers momentum and burns fuel to get higher. Once the huge rocket that the space shuttle rides on is out of fuel, it falls off. The shuttle continues on alone into space. To get back into the atmosphere, careful calculations are done. The shuttle must come in at just the right angle or else it will burn up or bounce off of the atmosphere and be gone forever. The space shuttle slices into the atmosphere and begins gliding like a paper airplane at incredible speeds. A computer controls the shuttle and lands it on a runway that is a mile wide and several miles long. It lands like a normal airplane and everyone arrives safely.
Yes to both. That would include people inside the shuttle too. If the shuttle sowed down, it would fall back to earth
The space shuttle is big just like the Orion. And they both get send off into space
The space shuttle has to start straight up, like a rocket.
