Jacqueline Kennedy was the First Lady who redecorated the White House. She maintained that she restored the White House, instead of redecorated it. She was appalled at the lack of historical furnishings in the White House, and set out to find pieces of furniture and art owned by former Presidents. She created a committee to help track down these treasures. The restoration was paid for by proceeds from the first official White House Guidebook. Today, the guidebook continues to support the work of the White House Historical Association.

∙ 10y agoYou may be referring to Jacqueline (Jackie) Kennedy, wife of John F. Kennedy. She gave the White House a very impressive makeover in 1961, and turned it into a sort of museum; she even hosted a guided tour for television, showing some of the historic artwork, furnishings, and decorative objects.
