Convicts are a semi-aggressive to aggressive south American cichlid, and will do well with other mid sized, aggressive south American cichlids. It may also be ok with some African cichlids, for example Yellow Labs and Electric Blue Johanni.

Bigger fish
depends on the fish but the majority of bony fish pump water over their gills by opening and closing their mouth when at rest
Provided there is sufficient water flow and all other conditions are OK, fish could well survive in PVC pipes. It is not a normal place however to keep fish in.
Win what? be more specific. If you mean in a territorial dispute, an adult fighting fish will get eaten (literally) by and adult convict cichlid. but if the cichlid and the fighting fish are of the same size then the fighting fish would be at an advantage.
Yes but it is best if they are of opposite sex and similar size. Small groups can get along OK provided the aquarium is large enough.
It is quite possible that the Convict cichlid would kill a fish as small and slow as a Betta. I would not try to mix other peaceful species with large aggressive fish like Convicts.
It is possible the fish could survive, however, it is more likely to stress out the fish resulting in death.
The suffixes words of "convict" could be "convicted" and "conviction."
As was the case with many of Australia's bushrangers, Mark Jefferies was an escaped convict. For men who could not handle the extremely tough life of a Van Diemen's Land convict, escape was the main option. If they could successfully escape, then their only way to survive was to become a bushranger.
Orcas require an ocean to survive and could not live in a barren desert.
