I believe that it is an assassin bug. If you read on it says that it is the most painful bug bite on the continent. Hopefully this is your bug. It bit my eight year old son last night and he was in terrible pain. Copy and paste this to see if this is your bug. http://bugguide.net/node/view/20504

the red-winged discustibug
A mosquito, bee or any insect that has wings and a stinger.
A black flying insect that burrows into wood is the carpenter bee. The female carpenter bees are the only ones with a stinger.
Black jacket bee
That is the correct spelling of "flying around", and a synonym is aviating.
After much research, I have come to the conclusion that thrips are defined as an orange flying and biting insect. I was at a park today with my children, and I was wearing white and blue. Apparently these bugs are vegetation but will "taste" humans to determine if they are a source of food.
Dragonflies often times have metallic black wings that shimmer in the daylight. They can have red bodies and do not have stingers.

Perhaps, a Sphex digger wasp. They have black and white stripes and a stinger almost as long as their body.
They get around by Flying.
