a newt may eat fish food i tried it with my female and male red spotted newts and they ate it HINT:just sprinkle a little bit of fish food on the top of their water if you put a little to much in they might get sick or die.

This sounds like the "eft" stage, or terrestrial stage of the red-spotted (eastern newt). The Eft stage may last anywhere from 1-7 years. Notice the fin-like quality of its tail. The eft stage is between the larval stage and the adult aquatic stage. Newts are not venomous. They are, however, poisonous, which means that if you eat them, bad things will happen. A newt's skin is covered in chemicals that taste nasty, make you vomit, and can possibly kill you, if eat a newt.
