From the beginning of The Bible some animals were referred to as Clean and Unclean.

The time of the flood with Noah - Gen 7 & 8.

This suggests that these laws were known and practiced before the Flood and even from the earliest days of mankind. Sanctification and holiness imply being "different" or "set apart" for a special purpose. God instituted His law of clean and unclean to show the difference between His people and the nations around them

Naturally, the things SDA do not eat are based on the Clean and Unclean Laws continue in similar manner.

They were outlined in detail in Lev 11

Beasts:

You must not eat of them that chew the cud, or of them that divide the hoof: as the camel, because he chews the cud, but divides not the hoof; he is unclean unto you, hare, swine (pig)

From the water:

all that have not fins and scales in the seas, and in the rivers, of all that move in the waters, and of any living thing which is in the waters, they shall be an abomination unto you. Eg. Shrimp, Catfish, Shark, Crab

From the Fowls:

All fowls that creep, going upon all four, shall be an abomination unto you. Eg. Owl, Eagle, Vulture, Kite etc.

Creeping Things:

All creeping things that creep upon the earth; the weasel, and the mouse, and the tortoise, ferret, and the chameleon, and the lizard, and the snail, and the mole.

Dead Animals

Once dead before whether by natural means or accident

Of their flesh shall ye not eat, and their carcass shall ye not touch; they are unclean to you.

Some people do not realize it, but the creator of this law is perfect in the writing as these animals do have a purpose for our existence whether great or small, but the fact that it goes into our bodies does harm immediately or gradually because of some toxins they possess. These are only discovered by scientists years later when the harm has already been done.

The official Adventist theological position is that the dietary laws of the Torah are still in effect, specifically the laws in Leviticus 11. Therefore Adventists eat only Kosher food.

Adventist believe that the human body is the "temple of the Holy Spirit" and that we not our own (1Co 6:19). They accept that "All Scripture is God-breathed, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man [and woman] of God may be perfected, thoroughly furnished to every good work". 2Ti 3:16

Therefore many Adventists choose to follow the Biblical diet outlined in Genesis 2 which was fruits, grains and nuts. After sin entered, the diet was expanded to include herbs or plant food. Two thousand years later, flesh food was allowed but there were restrictions placed upon what flesh should be eaten and how it was to be prepared (See Deuteronomy 14 and Leviticus 7:26).

Adventists also follow Biblical guidelines regarding alcohol and choose to abstain, "Wine is a mocker, strong drink israging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise" (Proverbs 20:1)

Scientists are discovering the wise decision of Adventists to follow the original "Eden diet" (see link below)

Anybody can eat anything, however it may not be a good idea. The real question is, What is acceptable food to eat according to Adventist theology?

The first answer would be that Adventists theology abides by the dietary laws laid out in the Torah in Leviticus 11, in other words, Kosher food.

However Adventist theology also believes that the body is the temple of God and that as such a person should eat as healthy as possible. Which is why a majority of Adventists are vegetarians, as they recognize this to be a healthier option.

Exodus 35: 3 strongly emphasizes

Ye shall kindle no fire throughout your habitations upon the sabbath day

kindle meaning - cause to start burning

Though some individuals take this to mean otherwise, it refers to cooking, baking etc. where fire is concerned. Though your instrument does not use the "match" does not mean it's not kindling. It is all stimulated because of HEAT.

The bible refers to the day before sabbath as the preparation day.

One knows of meals that can be prepared before and stored.

E.g. Bread, Cakes, juices, fruit salads, Sandwiches

What people don't realize is that you can prepare a meal before hand... allow it to cool and then refrigerated, then on the sabbath day when almost ready for eating (about 2 -3 hours before, anything over 5hours will spoil as natural) can be removed and it maintains its taste and quality. just that it's not HOT, neither is it cold/iced. Eg. Rice, some meat, peas

Others seek to invest in food warmers, that is, air tight coolers.

It's one day! Is it hard to give up a full meal for one day?

Seventh-Day Adventists base their ways of eating by what the Bible says about food. Leviticus 11 & Deuteronomy 14 are chapters that address what clean and unclean foods are (see related links).
