No foods cause E coli. Escherichia coli is a species of bacteria; it's extremely common, and in fact there are undoubtedly millions of them happily living in your own intestines and causing no trouble whatsoever. Most strains are harmless in the GI tract (though they can cause problems if they get outside it, for example into the blood stream or the peritoneum), but a few produce toxins that can cause food poisoning.

Some of the most likely foods to contain a dangerous strain are:

Undercooked ground beef . (used for Hamburgers essentially)

vegetables grown in cow manure or washed in contaminated water

fruit juice that isn't pasteurized (pasteurization is a process that uses heat to kill germs)

Unpasteurized dairy products, such as milks or cheeses can spread e coli. Also, raw meats or meats that have come in contact with feces, which is a main contributor to e coli.
