Very few immigrants from Spain came to America. Mostly Spaniards went to France, or to a Spanish-speaking country. However, there is one spice that came to American cuisine through Spanish influence, and that is asafaran, better known as saffron. This is used as a flavoring and coloring. It is very expensive, but you will find it in every cupboard.

Chop Suey is a dish local to Toisan in southern Canton. There it is pronounced, "Tsap Suei", but it is most definetly the same dish. Due to early immigrants from China to California it spread to America before most other Chinese foods did.

The Spanish didn't bring foods to South America, but took foods back to Europe from South America. Chocolate, tomatoes, corn, potatoes were all from South America and introduced to Europe.
