Immediately after WWII, the German capitol of Berlin was divided into four sectors, each occupied by one of the four major allied powers (the Soviet Union, the United States, the United Kingdom and France).
failed to take control of West Berlin. -Apex
The following countries had sectors of Berlin: the USSR (8 boroughs, the US (6 boroughs), Britain (4 boroughs) and France (2 boroughs). The word sectors was used for the divisions of Berlin, and the word zones referred to the much bigger divisions of Germany between the same four Allies. Joncey
At the end of World War II, Berlin (as well as the rest of the Germany) was split into four separate parts. Each part was under the control of the military of one of the four countries that won the war- the US, the UK, France and the USSR. In 1949, as the Cold War was starting between the USSR and the other three countries, the American, British and French parts were joined together to become West Berlin (and West Germany for the rest of the country). The Soviet part of Berlin became East Berlin (and the Soviet part of Germany became East Germany).
In WWII? That would have been Germany. After WWII, the US, Great Britain, France and the Soviet Union controlled it.
this is a highly disputed question and there is no clear answer, as war was never actually declared between the two superpowers. the generally accepted "start" of the cold war, however, was after WWII (ending in 1945), when Germany, Berlin, and Indochina were all divided into four parts and occupied by the victorious countries of the previous war. it is considered to have ended in 1991, when communism fell in the Soviet Union.
The country was occupied by the four allied powers. viz. USA, Great Britain, France and USSR (Russia). The German -polish border was moved west to the River Oder. Prussia, Pomerania, were absorbed into Poland. The USSR occupied north east Germany and created the DDR ( Deutscher Demokratische Republik(East Germany). The USA occupied southern Germany, The British occupied northern Germany, and the French occupied the Saarland and Alsace. With the exception of the DDR the western occupying powers kept the nation in one piece. The Capital city became Bonn on the River Rhine. Berlin was wholly encircled by East Germany (DDR), but the four occupying powers each had a section of the city. Special access roads, and rail were made from West Germany to Berlin for the occupying western Powers(Allies). Peolple travlling on these roads could NOT divrty from them, under threat of imprisonment by the communist east German authorities , with the support of the USSR. The city was cleared of war debris, and West Berlin became a cosmopolitan city on the western model. However, East Berlin was not seriopusly rebuilt, and just remained a cleared wreck. The infamous Berlin Wall was NOT built until 1961, by the East Germans/USSR. It it was brought down in 1989. A section remains to today as a monumnet to history. Access for German people between East and West Germany and between East & West Berlin was severely restricted until the fall of the Berlin Wall, and the subsequent reunification of Germany. (East & West becoming one nation again).

After World War II was over, the Allied troops occupied Germany and divided it into four sections, each one controlled by one of the four powers. The four Allied powers were the USA, the USSR, Britain, and France.
Berlin was divided into four separate sectors, claimed by the four main Allied countries: France, Great Brittan, the U.S.S.R. & the U.S.
After Germany surrendered it was decided that Berlin, located entirely in East Germany, would be occupied by four Allied powers. The USSR administered the eastern part of the city, and the US, Great Britain, and France administered the western part. This arrangement quickly broke down and the USSR tried to force the Western Allies out by closing the land routes to Berlin. The city was then supplied entirely by air (The Berlin Airlift) for a time until the Soviets agreed to reopen the roads. To prevent East Germans from fleeing to the West, the Berlin Wall was built in 1961, and it divided the city until 1989.
