R134a 1994 was the changeover year from R-12 to R-134a. Your Continental could have either, depending on when it was manufactured. The earlier production had R-12, and Ford issued a refit program for the owners to take the cars into the dealership to be converted to R-134a. Not all of them did so. Your best bet is to take the car to a qualified AC shop and ask them.
