Please don't just assume it's air - Why should it be?? Think.
I think the pepper must release some gas into itself while growing into the bell shape, if it didn't, it would be flat as a pancake due to the air pressure around it. So as the pepper grows, the gas volume insede must also grow, to maintain it's shape, and fight the surrounding air pressire (1 Bar, 1 Atmosphere, or 14.5 PSI)
SO - this gas, is it Nitrogen? (from nitrates in the soil). Is it oxygen? (from photosynthesis)
Chances are that it's a mix, but I bet it's not that similar to Air.
Same applies to Chillis, Sweet Peppers, etc....

The grains inside of a bell pepper will be the tiny seeds which are found when cutting it open. The entire bell pepper is not considered a grain because it is not a seed.
