If you are referring to the main battery cable use 00 guage cable.
4 gauge wire.
The fusible links on my '89 Z24 are located at the starter solenoid where the end of the positive battery cable attaches to the large terminal. There may be a fusible link near the positive battery cable in the 10 gauge wire (not the heavy gauge one). Good luck.
I personally did this in my 240sx s-14. I first removed the battery and cut the Red and black Cable. I then bought 0 Gauge Cable (Aught Gauge) and zipped tied this up under my car. I bought a cheap battery box from an autoparts store and screwed this down in my trunk over my passenger side wheel well. I had to buy new battery connectors and again connected this to my new 0 guage cable after I brought this cable up thru one of the holes in the trunk. Connected the battery up and ready to go.
Yes, the wire gauge numbers are smaller. A typical automotive battery cable would be 4 gauge, the wires after the fuse box would be 10, 12, 14, 16, 18 and 20 gauge depending on the accessory.
For the 1994 Ford Explorer 4 door , www.motorcraft.com shows : Battery to ground cable ( Motorcraft WC 9049 ) 50 inches / # 4 gauge Junction to starter cable ( Motorcraft WC 9050 ) 69 inches / # 4 gauge
the negatibe cable will be black. the positive cable will be red the negative cable will bolt to the vehicle frame or body the positive cable will bolt to a solenoid or starter motor also usually the cables will only fit one battery terminal. battery terminals are different sizes
OEM size is 4 gauge. I would buy a 2 gauge if you can. Just measure the old cable to know the length.
1 gauge cable should do the job
Remove - battery cable Remove + battery cable from battery and starter solenoid Route new cable following original routing Connect to starter solenoid Connect to + battery terminal Connect - battery cable
buy the proper battery and the cable will fit, or replace the cable with on that will
Make sure the Negative cable is well grounded. That may be the problem.
