Most precious gems such as diamonds can most commonly be find in and around volcanoes or volcanic tubes.Gems are found all over the world, depending on which gems you are looking for. South Africa is well known for diamonds but they are also found in Brazil and Siberia/Russia. Emeralds are found in Colombia and Siberia. Rubies are found in Australia, Montana/USA, and Vietnam.
Gold can be found in Brazil as of others places but thats all I know during the South American Gold Rush much was found in many different places.

Diamonds would be the best answer considering gems.
