Lewis and Clark were sent by President Thomas Jefferson to find water way routes to the Pacific Ocean. During their exploration they discovered more than 300 species of animals that were not known about, approximately 50 different Indian Tribes, the Rocky Mountains, major rivers and water ways, as well as hills that are well known today.
