There can be various reasons for this to happen, either your transmission is worn out, has low oil level, has too thick or too thin SAE grade oil or the trans fluid filter is clogged.
The 2006 Hyundai Sonata with the 3.5L V6 has an engine oil service fill of 4.5-quarts with the filter. The recommended viscosity and grade for this application is SAE 5W20, of API 'SL' or better.
A 10W-30 or 10W-40 should be fine.
10w30 should work fine.
I would recommend at least Grade 8, just to make sure.
Use the exact weight listed in your owners manual and nothing else. Any major brand is fine.
