What are the two main Constitutional sources of your Civil Liberties?

The Constitution really grants us zero liberties or rights. It acknowledges that we are born with certain rights and that the Government is not supposed to limit or take away from those rights. The Constitution grants the Government certain limited rights over us to make a civil and useful society. Other then those limitations we allow the Government to have under the constitution, we are free to do what we wish. The Constitution gives our Government certain (very limited) rights and liberties. We have chosen to allow our Government to have these rights to allow for a working society.

Is the bill of rights crucial to the protection of liberty?

Yes, of course. The Bill of Rights is the first 10 amendments added to the Constitution and states our basic rights as American citizens. It protects our liberties because it states in writing that people in the government can't certain things and that people in our country can't just do something and get away with it.

Why do some individual rights need special protection in the constitution?

To protect the rights and freedoms of certain individuals and groups to ensure equality.

Why was the third amendment added to the constitution?

The Third Amendment to the United States Constitution was included to avoid a repeat of the situation before the Revolution when Britain issued the Quartering Acts aimed at strengthening it's grip on the colonies. In a broader sense it is aimed, like many other amendments, at preserving civil liberties.
