The facts are what they are and should be reported fairly and accurately. Distorting the data is unethical as is burying it in unintelligible information and many times illegal. Once the data has been reported it can have a "spin" applied and mitigating factors identified. For example, sales might have been lower this quarter due to a rearranging of resources which might bode well for sales in the future. If sales are down and the reason is unknown it is probably better to say so and work on figuring out why. If you unethically inflate figures sooner or later someone will find it.
