Right then and there, MMe Loizell should have picked up her phone ( at her dwelling) and rang up the owner of the item and told the whole story- then, if she had any scruples, MMe Forestier ( roughly Forester ) would have explained it was a wearing copy and the crash-dive into virtual destitution would have been avoided. a phone call could have saved the day. At the time the story was written phones were very much in existence- certainly in big cities. a similar but male-oriented tale about a lost fortune- turns out to be, you guessed it- Confederate- formed the basis of a Superman episode- the Overcoat.
