Nothing happens to the other side of the Moon in half moon days. The reason we do not see the whole Moon is because only half of it is reflecting the light from the Sun.

What faces do the moon have?

The Moon always presents the same side of itself to Earth, thus nobody had seen the other side of the Moon (i.e. the other half) until a rocket orbited the Moon.

What fraction of the moon can be seen from the moon when the moon is at its third quarter phase?

Half of it, the same as always. Half of the visible side of the Moon will be brightly lit by the Sun, and the other half is often dimly visible by reflected earthshine, sunlight that is reflected from the Earth and then shines down on the night side of the Moon.

Why is half countrys of the earth is day and half of the country of the earth is night?

Because the earth spins on it's axis with a sun on one side of the earth and the moon the other side of the earth and there is an imaginary line across half of the earth and which half gets on to the sun or moon side it is night and so that means the other half is day.

Where is the other half of the moon?

it's right there on the other side of the half we can see. The same face of the Moon is constantly pointing toward us, so we never get to see the "far side of the Moon" from the Earth, but we've seen pictures snapped by space probes.

How do you get phases of the moon?

The Phases of the moon are caused by the sun shining on one side of the moon- the other side is in shadow. When the moon is beside the earth with the sun shining on half of it, you will see a 1/2 full moon.

What moon phase does the moon appear unlit?

At the time of the new moon, the side of the moon we see is unlit.Of course, the other half, the side away from us, is lit by the sun. We just can't see it.

What cast the shadow on the moon during the day time?

The moon does. The sun only lights up half the moon (the side of the moon the sun is on). The other half of the moon is dark, because the sun's light is blocked by the moon itself.

What is the moon phase when only half of the lighted side can be seen and occurs after a full moon?

When the moon appear half moon?

that side that we are seeing is 1/2 lit up by the sun, and the other 1/2 in darkness.

What happens to the moon when its a half-moon?

The moon is only visible because of the sun's light, which is why the moon appears to glow. When there is a half moon, only half of the moon is reflecting off the sun's light. It all has to do with the angle of the moon, the sun, and the Earth, which is why the moon has so many different phases.

Why cant the whole moon be seen from earth?

A2. The Moon keeps one side locked towards Earth. Thus whether it were illuminated or not, we can never see the far side of the Moon.Incidentally, there is a marvellous movie of the complete Lunar cycle under Moon/Tidal effects in Wikipedia.A1. The sun casts a light on one side of the moon and the other side is a dark shadow. So if there is a half moon, for example, from earth, we can see half of the lighted side and half of the dark side, which makes it look like the moon is cut in half. Since the Earth rotates, we can see a different side every night, and that's how we can see more or less of the lighted side of the moon. For a new moon, Earth can see the whole dark side and none of the lighted side. For a full moon, Earth can see the whole lighted side and none of the dark side.
