In August 1999, it erupted. Its a composite cone and so there were pyroclastic flows, volcanic bombs and an ash cloud that rose 10km. As Ecuador is an LEDC there was little monitoring and therefore probably no evacuation plan. There was a high building density leaving 5000 homeless but only killing 6 people, although many other were injured.
