In the book, Chastity and her mother have been on the run since Chass was a baby, assuming new identities in every town. She doesn't know why they are running, who her father is, or even her real name. On the night of Chass's sixteenth birthday, her mother disappears. Police find her abandoned car, blood matching her DNA, and a purse containing six ID cards. Chass doesn't believe her mother is dead, only that she had to run again. If Chastity doesn't find her mother in six days, she'll be put into foster care.She is chased by people who are trying to kill her while she is look for her mom. Once her mom gave her a key to open a deposit box , she only found an old CD , she played and it was a clu of a murder. On the tape, Kyle Van Epps told Chas's mom that he killed some girl he used to go out with and that he and 2 of his best friends were there on the crime scene. Chas noticed that the people that were chasing her worked for Van Epps Company; Chas's mom send her a text message saying that she was okay and that she will meet her @ midnight on a bar. When she got there , her mom was there with Van Epps and he told her to give him the tape or her mom will die. Chas gave him the tape but he ran away with her mom and the tape(this part is way longer but it is a lil summary so .... ). At the end, Van Epps went to jail, her mom was rescued and she was okay. But she still had the doubt of who her father was if it was Van Epps or not ? or if Van Epps and her mom were married and got divorced?..... but none of those questions are right. Her father was the music producer who recorded the tape but he got killed by Van Epps , Van Epps always know her mom got the tape and that's why they were always on the run. He even told her what her real name was but she changed it to Chassity Pureheart because that know she was known as by everyone else.
