Why would water plants contain DDT?

Some of the pesticides sprayed on farm crops wash off in the rain and get into the waterways. The water plants absorb the pesticides.

Your premise is incorrect; DDT does not kill birds. DDT kills mosquitoes.

How could an animal living hundreds of kilometers away for an area sprayed with DDT still be at risk from DDT poisoning?

Many animals migrate at specific times of the year. An organism with DDT in its tissues may migrate a distance from the area it was sprayed; it may be consumed by a carnivore that would store a higher concentration of DDT in its body tissue. Migrating birds can carry DDT in their bodies even though they inhabit and can be consumed in an ecosystem that is distant from the one that is sprayed. The peregrine falcon is a species of bird found to have high concentrations of DDT in its body. The habitat of the falcon is quite broad, ranging from the North American boreal forest to areas of the southern United States. Falcon prey on organisms in areas where use of DDT is still prevalent, then migrate to areas where the use of DDT has been banned.

Why did we start using DDT and what is the problem with using it?

DDT was used in the 1940's. While my dad was stationed in the Philippines in WW2 they were sprayed with it keep the mosquitoes off of the troops. It has been found to cause cancer and to kill or produce deformed animals. Things like Eagle eggs have shown up with DDT and breaking because the shell was too thin.

What animal would have the highest DDT in its body?

Is there any evidence of bio-accumulation in the case of DDT?

Yes, many animals and plants have been tested and proven to contain DDT years after it was applied to crops many miles away. The most notable case is that of the American Bald Eagle, whose eggshells were weakened by DDT contamination, threatening the entire Bald Eagle population for years. Some years after DDT was banned in the US, the eagle's normal reproductive cycle was restored, as the DDT levels in their blood was reduced.

Why did ddt only affect to carnivores?

Not true. Birds have been affected by DDT and so have fish.
