What was the role of women in upper class rome?

The roles of upper class women in ancient Rome were diversified and could be quite important, especially if her husband were in politics. Her primary role though, was to support her husband. She did this by keeping their domestic affairs in order, and tending to the education of their children. She also was a matchmaker in trying to have her children marry into a "proper" family. If she had a husband who was an aspiring politician (or even a government worker) it was often through her social contacts that her husband was noticed. The ideal upper class man and woman worked as a team for the advancement both of the family and the individual. The roles of upper class women in ancient Rome were diversified and could be quite important, especially if her husband were in politics.
