1988 when I was born
SNCC was started February 1, 1960 by four black students from NC A&T University. The students refused to leave a white only lunch counter in Greensboro, NC. This started thousands of "sit-ins". SNCC was created at Shaw University in Raleigh, NC.
Defiance: a daring or bold resistance to authority or to any opposing force. During the lunch counter sit-ins, the black people wanted to prove to the white people that they had a right to be there just as much as they. So even if it meant being defiant, they wanted to get their point across.
During the Civil Rights movement in the United States various types of protests were held including sit ins. The first sit in had over 50 thousand students participate.
Nashville sit-ins happened in 1960.
The first teach-in took place at the University of Michigan in March 1965 when a group of faculty members decided to make a public statement against the war Students at the University of Michigan participated int he first teach-in, held in March, 1965. The teach-ins soon spread to universities and colleges across the nation. The teach-ins served as a sort of activism during the Vietnam War.
