To clarify: We boiled alcohol with a leaf and tested for starch with iodine (present in the veins), We also covered a leaf with tin foil and came back the next day. The leaf was more green in the veins and more discolored farther away from the veins. This lab was suppose to show us glucose is made by the leaf, but all it proves is that starch is in the veins, right?
It shows the presence of Starch in the section ot the leave. during photosynthesis when Starch is being produce with the presence of sunlight. it is then tested and found that the exposable part of the leave is containing of Starch.

Startch have two types of polymer chain,one is amylose and another is amylopectin.Amylose is simple straight chain of glucose(1--->4 linkage),while amylopectin have branching.At branching point,there is 1--->6 linage and 1--->4 linkage in every subchain. So,in startch 1-6 linkage comes after 20 to 25 gucose monomer,while in gycogen this linkage comes very frequently.....
A non-green leaf lacking chloroplasts will not be able to synthesize food which later on gets converted into starch. So it will not show the presence of starch in the test.

Yes, In my Biology class we did an experiment on bacterial growth, I tested vaseline and a massive amount of mould and bacteria grow on it, it may not be able to see but it's there.

Carbohydrates, especially starch, which is a polysaccharide carbohydrate. Starch turns deep purple when tested with iodine.

The presence of starch can be tested with the help of Iodine. Similarly Benedict's test solution is also used to detect the presence of starch.
