Trading 'Space for Time'. The further in that Germany got in Russia, the further their supplies were, and reinforcements

Happy to say that Russia and USA as well UK became enemies after the War and that's the period of Cold War which sad to say, lasted only up to 1985 where Peristroika & Glasnost took place.

Stalin is all powerful. However he had some notable commanders such as : Zhukov; Koniev; Rokossokovsky; Eremenko; Chuikov. A great film showing the hardships of, for example, the Stalingrad campaign, is Enemy at the Gates. I think it is worth the mention that the War in the East is incomparable to any other front in WW2. (At least in terms of the sheer numbers of men involved. I accept the Japanese defenses of certain islands in the Pacific conflict were horrific also) Indeed I do not demean the efforts of the Western powers in North Africa, Italy or for that matter post D Day. I am accentuating the numbers involved & the consequent loss of life in the East, which was comparitively greater.
